Vision: This event is designed to feature the beauty of our city, promote healthy activity for our citizens, generate interest in and support for Fort Smith Parks and Recreation and the Trail System, and draw visitors to the region. Proceeds from the event will benefit Park Partners.

Successes from last year’s inaugural event:

  • Parks Partners received a check for $40,000 to support the Fort Smith Multi-Purpose Trail System
  • 1,023 runners from all across the United States , Canada and even Argentina
  • Over 400 community volunteers
  • Unprecedented support from local businesses, churches and civic groups along the entire race route

Events: Marathon, Half Marathon, Marathon Relay

Date: Sunday, February 12th 2017—provides for cool weather training, and places us first in a series of three Arkansas marathons (FSM, Little Rock, Hogeye).

Theme: “This one’s got GRIT” recognizes both our heritage as an “old west” border town and the challenging course our participants will face (it’s sure to develop a reputation!). The start/finish in historic downtown, Bass Reeves on horseback for a real shotgun start, an old-west style finisher’s medal, etc. all point to an event that is uniquely Fort Smith. Promotional materials and website will include an enticement to spend the weekend exploring the Nat’l Historic Site, Fort Smith Museum of History, and many other cultural, dining and entertainment venues.
